John Merrill

John Merrill is a principal at Lodging Capital Partners, LLC.  Mr. Merrill’s primary role with LCP is to oversee the investment properties of the company and to add value to the properties through aggressive asset management.

Prior to joining LCP, John has had a successful 28 year career in the hospitality industry both in the field managing hotels and in the corporate offices of Hyatt Corporation.  His previous hotel positions include General Manager, Controller, Operations Analyst and Front Office Manager.  John was named Controller of the Year by Hyatt Hotels and Resorts and was nominated twice for Hotelier of the Year by Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association.  His corporate experience includes positions in Operations, Finance, Best Practices and Hotel Accounting.  During his time in these positions, John oversaw the opening of 39 hotels and the Divestiture of 12 hotels. He led the Best Practices team that resulted in multi-million dollar savings for the corporation.  He completed due diligence, marketing studies, proformas and feasibility studies on many of the hotel projects.  John was also involved with the formation of Hyatt Equities, a billion dollar real estate fund for the purchase of new inventory for Hyatt Hotels and Resorts.  He established and managed a compliance audit in conjunction with Price Waterhouse Coopers that was conducted in many the Hyatt Hotels and Resorts.  He oversaw the FF&E and Renovation Budgets for many of the hotels and developed the “Annual Plan” book that was prepared by all Hyatt Hotels & Resorts for their annual communication to the owners.  John is a specialist in Budgeting and Labor Management.

Mr. Merrill has been very active in Convention and Visitor Bureaus, as well as Illinois and American Hotel and Lodging Associations.  He took a leadership role in the Illinois Governmental Affairs Committee and participated in the AHLA Capital Check In, meeting with Senators and Representatives in Washington DC to help raise awareness of the Hotel Industry’s contribution to creating jobs in America.

John is a graduate of Baylor University where he earned his BA in Oral Communications, a Certified Hotel Administrator and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Hospitality Department of College of DuPage.  He has conducted many seminars on Labor Management throughout the country and has presented on several occasions to the Internal Audit Sub-Committee of the American Hotel and Lodging Association.
